"Frame It" with pan pastels
Oh my, yet another week has "blurred" past me and we are in March already. Whilst I am happy that this means an imminent change in the season, I am a little frightened by the speed the year is beginning to go at .... I struggle some days to remember what I did, where and when .... as I said, blurring past.
Well it's Sunday and that means another Premium Craft Brands Pan Pastel Challenge and this week the challenge will be for one week only. The reason .... well can't say as am sworn to secrecy!!! The theme, however, is "Frame It" and each of the DT have used the frame in a completely different way. Pop over to the challenge blog and see what my DT ubber talented teamies have made. For my card, I have created a traditional frame using X-Cut (?) dies and Studio 12 stamped images around the outside.
To make my background I have used my pan pastels to show why sky starts and grass/greenery begins!. I have stamped the images with distress inks but have coloured/painted them all with pan pastels (my new favourite technique). I make a pile of pan pastel dust and add a small amount of water to create a paste. I then gradually water down the paste to create different paint consistencies depending on what I am painting/colouring. The flowers, leaves (Shabby Roses), swirls and circle dots are made using Studio 12 stamps and the sentiment is from Nikky Halls new stamp range designed for Premium Craft Brands.
Isn't that sentiment just brilliant (the words are just spot on) and can be used for any occasion ...... I have been using it on lots of different projects (watch this apace). I have stamped it on a very light blue inked panel, finished off with a stamped butterfly. I have added depth to the butterfly by using a Doobadoo diecut paper butterfly.
I have raised the frame layer up with 3D foam and added extra flowers, always layered up with 3D foam. I have used a Doobadoo paper button in the centre of each flower with a dew drop as the finishing touch. As added definition, I have used the GraphIt white shaker pen and added highlights here and there. I think it makes the flowers "pop" a little more. I added little highlights to the leaves too ...
The swirls and feathers/wings are also from Doobadoo. They are so intricate but made from very sturdy card. Talking about Doobadoo, I was very lucky to be asked to be on their UK Challenge Team and am very, very, very excited to say the least. I was asked to supply samples using Doobadoo products for the recent Stitches show. The first Doobadoo Challenge will start on 8th March 2014, so put that date in your diary ...
A list of all the products I have used can be found at the bottom of this post. Have a great Sunday everyone and I am hoping it stays dry long enough to give my garden some much needed TLC .... it is looking so sad for itself.
